A Last Minute Gift

We were able to sneak away very last-minute this past weekend to one of our favorite family spots. It’s difficult for us to plan family get-aways during the summer. It’s Chris’ busy season at work. So when things fall into place like this did, we jump at it.

As the children get older and spend more time involved with things outside of our home, I have become more and more determined to find every opportunity to spend uninterrupted time with them. We love our extended family and friends immensely, of course, and we want and need time with them. But I can’t help but feel that the time we spend with just “us” is invaluable, and so necessary for sustaining the precious bonds we have with one another. And even more, for deepening those bonds. For nurturing our family intimacy with “carefree timelessness” as Matthew Kelly might say. (He’s outstanding, by the way. Highly recommend his books and audio recordings!!) And basically, I just love nothing more than being with my kids and with Chris! I’m so grateful that we could do this. And it was an interesting few days, for sure! Between the downpouring rain and breaks of sun, we were never bored! We swam, we ate, we walked and explored and talked and laughed. We even shared a ONE BED suite the second night…all seven of us! Some highlights for me were: an amazingly delicious all-you-can-eat breakfast each morning, God’s beautiful creation all around us to enjoy, a really HOT hot tub, and most of all, seeing my children genuinely have a great time together…belly laughs included!

My heart is full of gratitude, Lord, that You orchestrated this beautiful “gift” for us!
